The Kentucky General Assembly meets annually. In even numbered years the session is limited to 60 days; in odd numbered years, the session is limited to 30 days. The Governor may call special sessions of the General Assembly. In fact it was during a special session in December 1976, called by Governor Julian Carroll, that saw the reinstitution of the death penalty in Kentucky.

The next regular meeting of the General Assembly will begin in January 2008. During the time between sessions, the Senate and House Committees meet together as Joint Interim Committees. KCADP generally tracks the activities of the Judiciary committee in each chamber. Bills related to the death penalty will almost always be considered by members of these two committees.
